Asymbiotic Germination of Seeds of Bletilla striata

Abstract
The study was carried out to determine the suitable concentration of sucrose, agar and peptone and pH value for growth of seedlings of Bletilla striata. The flowers were artificially pollinated in mid May and the seeds were harvested in mid September, 1979 and stored in desiccator at room temperature. The seeds n-ere sown in early April, 1980 and 125 day old seedlings were used in this experiment.
1. Growth of seedlings was the best in the media containing 3g/§¤ hyponex and 4g §¤ peptone. The concentration of peptone Has higher in this medium, compared with that of KSI.
2. The optimal sucrose concentration was identified as 4.0%. As sucrose concentration was increased from 2.0% to 6.0%, the dry weight was inclined to be heavier.
3. 0.6% agar concentration was the meat suitable for growth of seedlings. As agar concentration was increased, shoot elongation was inclined to be depressed.
.1. Growth of seedlings was good at pH 4.5. As pH value was increased, shoot elongation had a tendency to be depressed.
Through the results obtained from Report I and II, it was found that following method and media was the most effectice for germination of seeds and growth of seedlings of Bletilla striata.
